the purpose of a music video is to promote the song and attract a wider audience

It has changed it drastically because music videos mainly used to be shown on TV to promote their songs but now we can watch music videos through social media and we can watch it any time we want due to the fact that we have smartphones etc

The three major record labels are Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. VEVO is a place where you can put up your music videos so people can watch them.
4) What are the key conventions of a music video?
Some of the key conventions in a music video is the fact that there is usually a narrative or performance in the video. The artists is usually lip Syncing with the song they produced.
5) How can narrative be used in music video? Give an example of a music video that uses a narrative.
Narrative can be used to tell a story in the movie. It usually follows Todorov's theory of equilibrium.

The setting we see in current hip hop music videos tend to be set in the urban areas. We also see where the artist grew up in the video which set up conventions for later hip hops music videos. Also, we see that the video is associated with gang culture as we can see guns in the music video etc.

I think that music videos are very important in promoting the music that the artists create as it gives meaning to the song. However, because we are in 2018, we usually find out about music through social media and we can instantly find the song on Spotify or Apple music etc very easily where it doesn't show the music videos
